(4) Swine Flu H1N1 – How to Protect Your Most Valuable Assets - Yourself and Your Family
Dr. David Reeves associate professor of population health at The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine says that Most of the time the virus stays in pigs. He says that the 2009 H1N1 flu appears to be a new strain of the virus. “We don't know how it happened. We have not seen it in pigs.” In other words folks, this specific virus did not come from pigs.
Current expectations are however, that the pandemic will be of moderate severity, but may become more severe in countries with limited resources, poor health care and a high prevalence of underlying medical problems.
In retrospect of the current crisis, studies show that one-third to half of severe and fatal infections are occurring in healthy adults between the ages of 30 and 50 years old.
Pandemics spread rapidly and, historically, take approximately 6 to 9 months to spread worldwide. Chan cautioned that countries should prepare for more cases of swine flu to be reported in the near future and that countries where outbreaks appear to have peaked should prepare for a second wave of infection.
While truly effective vaccines for swine flu are not yet available, Chan expects that they will be completed and available in the coming months.
This tells us that we need to strengthen our immune systems NOW people. Why take the chance and wait for a vaccination 6 to 9 months from now? And, with the new health care system seemingly approaching, who knows who will be able to get the vaccine and who will not; how much it will cost and will there be enough to go around the population.
